Salt factory is unique in Drohobych, authentic and unique manufactory. Even during the period of Kievan Rus in the eleventh century on the site then there was a small settlement Drohobycz, which had on its site a number of "salty sources" - sources of brine. Since the founding of the city (present age of the city is estimated at about 915 years), Drohobych served as local and regional „ŻUPY”.

Geologicznie in hydrologicznie, brine from salt deposits Permian. Under one of the districts of Drohobych, located at a depth of several hundred meters, large „słony staw”, in which the sweet ground water, contact with rock salt decks. The result is a dissolution of rock salt in the water, resulting in the creation of a high concentration of salt NaCl (rock salt). As a result of pressure and the resulting influx of new ground water to the underground storage tank - brine is precipitated on the surface.

It is this brine (salt water) gave the "impulse" rise of industry in these areas related to the extraction of salt by boiling. In the eleventh century it was the first such workshop, where salt was extracted in the area of Western Ukraine. Thanks to strata occurring salts and numerous forests (performed functions wood fuel material), using the technology of brewing salts, It was acquired in salt, which is brewed in special containers, and then the evaporation of water packaged in a special „TOPKI” and toasted on the fire.

Local people very religious believer in the supernatural and evil, which lurks in the ground - concluded, believed in the fact - that the dragon lives on the hill, that his fiery and poisonous exhaust, destroys vegetation and makes the earth a dead.
