Airports located in Western Ukraine, and also located in Poland and Belarus, may serve as technical base serving residents or visitors of Ukraine, particularly tourists coming from far away. Invariably this is the function of airports: Lviv, Uzhgorod, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Tenopil (in Ukraine), Okecie, Warsaw, Balice in Krakow (in Poland) and in Brest (Belarus). All these cities are connected to a dense rail and road network with territory of Ukraine, which gives a great help for tourists moving.

For example: in the nearby Podkarpackie Wojewodztwo in Poland, directly on the Polish-Ukrainian borderland area is located Airport Rzeszow - Jasionka. Some time ago military, and now civil airport, it has an asphalt concrete runway with a length of 3 200 m., which gives the possibility to accept aircraft of any size and class.

Interesting is the fact, that only in Poland Airport Warsaw - Okecie im. Chopin has a longer runway (3 690 m). In 2009 Year, Jasionka handled 380,000 passengers, which gives only 1,37% of the total air passengers handled in Poland. A significant barrier to the development of the airport was the lack of a large terminal, which caused a large reduction in air traffic. In September 2006 began work on a new terminal.

Lviv International Airport, is the largest airport in Western Ukraine. It is a civilian-military airport with asphalt-concrete runway with length 2 510 m. In 2009 He was handled roughly 190 000 passengers. To increase the intake of passengers from 2007 year is carried on a building of a new terminal and extensive renovations of the old one. In addition, work is underway aimed at the reconstruction of the runway.

Other airports located in Western Ukraine have little share in the number of passengers handled. Some, for example, the International Airport in Rivne, carry on service activity, repair and cargo handling. While in the territory of Belarus, in the immediate vicinity of the Ukrainian Volhynia, is located Brest Airport.

It is planned to create new airports by rebuilding the existing military and sport airports. In the Polish Republic, decision of local authorities with the support of the European Commission in Swidnik sports airport (Lublin region) will be rebuilt into passenger Airport Lublin - Swidnik for handling the agglomeration of Lublin. While in Western Ukraine, is planned to rebuild the old strategic military airfields in Lutsk and Stryy for civilian purposes.

Flight connections do not play an important role in the Western Ukraine and the Polish-Ukrainian borderland. Serve as back-end supporting the movement of people living and traveling in the area. Most passengers handle the airports located in Poland in the cities of Warsaw and Krakow. They are the largest airports in the region and have the greatest "list" of cities to which flights are held. Large role in international and intra-national airports also play airports in Rzeszow (Poland), Lviv, Uzhgorod and Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine).

Airport Rzeszow is supported by one domestic and two foreign carriers. They are: LOT Polish Airlines, Ryanair and Lufthansa.

Currently, the situation on the air services market in Ukraine – improved with the entry into the Ukrainian market low-cost carriers such as WizzAir and Lufthansa, resulting in decreased travel costs and increased availability of air services. By state in 2009 year on the Ukrainian market of air services following foreign carriers operate: Austrian Airlines, Carpatair, Lot Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, South Airlines, UTair and WizzAir. Ukrainian carriers also operate: Aerosvit, DonbassAero, Lugansk Airlines, Lviv Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines and Windrose.
